Christy Hayek is a first generation Arab American from the New York/New Jersey area. She began a career in politics at a very young age, working for multiple Congress members on a variety of policy issue areas as well as spearheading the writing and passage of multiple pieces of legislation on immigration, health care reform, & U.S.- Mexico Relations.
During her time as a political staffer in Washington, D.C., she began experimenting with the arts as an outlet, using a variety of materials to create fluid abstract art, such as experimenting with a full Vantablack canvas series. After 2016, She spent the next 3 years living Brooklyn and pursuing employment in the creative field, events and music festivals spaces, as well as managing musicians in the electronic dance scene. During that time she collaborated with artists, celebrities, songwriters on album art, graphics, & music videos in the fashion, music, & entertainment industries.
In 2020, Christy moved to LA in order to fully pursue her career in art & entertainment. She continues to work in government relations and remains politically active serving as a Director of Government Affairs for the Los Angeles Business Council.
The main goal with her work is to engage the viewer's ability to recognize the patterns and shapes that exist in her work also exist all around us. The human experience emulates the same energy that defines in every, rock, living creature, and planet in this universe. By replicating these visualizations to describe this interconnectedness, she attempts to trigger the viewer to experience life from a different vantage point and viewpoint perspective. Inspired by The Overview Effect (1), she desires to express the same feeling of existentialism that astronauts experience when viewing the earth from outer space.
(1) The Overview Effect is a cognitive shift reported by some astronauts while viewing the Earth from space. Researchers have characterized the effect as "a state of awe with self-transcendent qualities, precipitated by a particularly striking visual stimulus".
